1984 and Brave New World were warnings, not guidebooks, but we have turned them into them. Here we are, drinking from our SOMA feeds on our phones, going catatonic when our phones are taken away, and starting to censor art retroactively, like Roald Dahl’s books, some of which are offending our newly sensitive palette. This is just plain wrong. The only artists who should be allowed to change their work are themselves. That art is a product of its time, and if we can censor fiction so blithely, what is to stop people from changing history to suit their tastes?
